DJ Kool
DJ Kool (born John W. Bowman in Washington, D.C.) is an American hip hop DJ and rapper. He is known for his distinctive, booming voice and party-rocking anthems.
Kool rose to prominence in the Washington, D.C. area in the 1980s, playing at block parties and clubs. He is credited with popularizing the call-and-response style that became a hallmark of his performances.
His breakthrough hit came in 1996 with "Let Me Clear My Throat," which sampled the theme from "The 900 Number" by Mark Davis and "Hollywood Swingin'" by Kool & the Gang. The song reached the top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100 and became a popular party anthem.
