Leiboldia

Leiboldia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, tribe Vernonieae. Native to South America, specifically found in countries like Brazil and Paraguay, Leiboldia species are typically herbaceous perennials.

The genus is characterized by its pappus consisting of bristles, its discoid flower heads (lacking ray florets), and its involucral bracts arranged in multiple series. Leiboldia species often inhabit grasslands and open woodlands.

Taxonomically, the delimitation and relationships of Leiboldia within the Vernonieae tribe have been subject to revision and debate, and further research may be necessary to fully clarify its phylogenetic placement. Some species formerly classified under Leiboldia may have been reclassified into other genera based on molecular and morphological evidence.

The genus is named in honor of German botanist and plant collector Wilhelm Leibold.
