Pilning

Pilning is a village and civil parish in South Gloucestershire, England, located close to the Severn Estuary, north-west of Bristol. It lies within the unitary authority of South Gloucestershire and is part of the parliamentary constituency of Filton and Bradley Stoke.

The village is notable for Pilning railway station, which, until 2016, was one of the few remaining stations in the UK where passengers were required to cross the tracks using a stepped foot crossing rather than a bridge or subway. The station serves the South Wales Main Line.

Historically, Pilning was an agricultural community. Modern development has seen an increase in residential properties, although farming remains a significant part of the local economy. The parish also includes the hamlets of Severn Beach and Aust.

Local landmarks include the Severn Bridge, which is visible from many parts of the village, and the proximity to the Severn Estuary provides a rich habitat for wildlife.

The parish council is responsible for local amenities and services, and Pilning falls under the jurisdiction of South Gloucestershire Council for larger administrative matters.
