Moritz (beer)
Moritz is a brand of beer brewed in Barcelona, Spain. Founded in 1856 by Louis Moritz, an immigrant from Pfaffenhofen, Alsace, it is one of the oldest and most iconic beer brands in the city.
The beer is characterized by its distinctive green bottle and its use of Saaz hops. Moritz produces a range of beers, including its flagship Moritz Epidor, a Märzen-style lager, and Moritz Original, a Pilsner.
After a period of absence from the market due to financial difficulties, Moritz beer was relaunched in 2004 and has since regained popularity, associating itself strongly with Catalan culture and design. The company operates a brewery and flagship store in Barcelona's Ronda Sant Antoni, which includes a microbrewery, restaurant, and shop.
Moritz is known for its marketing campaigns that often highlight its historical connection to Barcelona and its commitment to local ingredients and traditions. The brand is readily available throughout Catalonia and increasingly in other parts of Spain.
