Gareth Thomas (English politician)
Gareth Thomas (born 15 July 1967) is a British Labour and Co-operative politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Harrow West since 1997.
Early Life and Career:
Thomas was educated at Hatch End High School and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he studied Politics and History. Before entering Parliament, he worked in local government and for a charity supporting small businesses.
Parliamentary Career:
Elected to the House of Commons in 1997, Thomas served in various government roles during the Labour governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. He held positions including Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for International Development (2003-2008) and Minister for Trade, Investment and Consumer Affairs (2008-2010).
Since Labour went into opposition in 2010, Thomas has served in various Shadow Ministerial positions, focusing on international development, trade, and foreign affairs. He is a prominent voice on issues related to global poverty and development, and has been involved in parliamentary committees and initiatives related to these topics.
