Stephen Gaselee (judge)
Stephen Gaselee (1762-1839) was an English judge. He was a Justice of the Court of Common Pleas from 1824 until his death. Born in Hertford, he was the son of Stephen Gaselee, a surgeon. He was educated at Charterhouse School and Balliol College, Oxford, and was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1794. He built a successful legal practice and became a Serjeant-at-Law in 1814.
In 1824, he was appointed to the bench of the Court of Common Pleas, succeeding Sir Robert Dallas. He served in this role for fifteen years, known for his diligence and sound judgment. He was knighted upon his appointment. Gaselee died at his residence in Serjeant's Inn on 26 March 1839. He was buried in his family vault at Little Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.
