The Order is divided into two classes:
-

-
Officer (OD): Awarded to individuals who have rendered meritorious service to Belize. Recipients are entitled to use the post-nominal letters "OD."
The Governor-General of Belize, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister, makes appointments to the Order. It is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon an individual in Belize.
