Fuller ministry (1922–1925)
The Fuller ministry refers to the government of Western Australia led by Premier Sir George Fuller of the Nationalist Party from 1922 to 1924. This followed a period of instability in Western Australian politics. Fuller became Premier after the collapse of the Mitchell ministry (also Nationalist) due to internal divisions and the loss of a crucial by-election.
The Fuller ministry was characterized by fiscal conservatism and an emphasis on agricultural development. Key policies included promoting closer settlement schemes, encouraging immigration, and streamlining government finances. However, the government faced challenges including economic downturns and growing industrial unrest.
The Fuller ministry was relatively short-lived. At the 1924 state election, the Nationalist Party suffered significant losses, and Fuller was forced to resign as Premier. He was succeeded by Philip Collier, who formed a Labor government.
