Popelín

Popelín (also sometimes seen as "Poplin") is a plain-weave fabric characterized by its fine horizontal ribs or cords. These ribs are created by using a thicker weft yarn (running horizontally) and a thinner warp yarn (running vertically). The resulting fabric is strong, durable, and has a slightly textured surface.

Characteristics:

• Weave: Plain weave with a subtle ribbed texture.
• Composition: Traditionally made from silk, but now commonly found in cotton, polyester, or blends.
• Feel: Smooth and crisp hand, often with a slight sheen depending on the fiber content.
• Durability: Relatively strong and resistant to wear and tear.
• Uses: Widely used for shirts, dresses, skirts, trousers, and other apparel. Also used in home decor items like curtains and tablecloths.
• Maintenance: Generally easy to care for, but specific cleaning instructions depend on the fiber content. Cotton poplin is usually machine washable, while silk poplin may require dry cleaning.
• Advantages: Wrinkle-resistant, relatively inexpensive, and versatile.
• Disadvantages: Can sometimes shrink or stretch depending on the fiber content and care methods.
