Max Thompson (born 1956) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
Thompson was recruited to Fitzroy from Caulfield Technical School. He made his senior VFL debut in 1975. A defender, Thompson played a total of 42 games for Fitzroy over four seasons (1975-1978). He was known for his strong marking ability and reliability in the backline. After leaving Fitzroy, he continued to play football at a local level. His career ended prematurely due to a knee injury.
