R112 road (Ireland)

The R112 is a regional road in County Dublin, Ireland. It connects the N81 at Templeogue to the N3 at Cabra, traversing primarily residential areas south of the city centre.

Route:

The R112 commences at its junction with the N81 in Templeogue, near the Spawell complex. It proceeds northwards, passing through the suburbs of Terenure, Rathgar, and Rathmines. Continuing north, it crosses the Grand Canal and enters the city centre, intersecting with several local roads. It passes through Harold's Cross, Clanbrassil Street, and South Circular Road. The road then continues through Dolphin's Barn, Rialto, and Inchicore, before terminating at its junction with the N3 in Cabra, near the junction with the M50.

Characteristics:

The R112 is a heavily trafficked road, particularly during peak hours. It is primarily a two-lane road for much of its length, with some sections widened to accommodate bus lanes. The road is characterized by a mix of residential and commercial properties along its route. Several junctions along the route have traffic lights to manage the flow of traffic. Significant congestion is common along its entire route.

Improvements:

Due to the high traffic volume, various proposals for improvements to the R112 have been considered over the years. These have included widening sections of the road, upgrading junctions, and implementing bus priority measures. However, due to the densely populated nature of the areas the road traverses, implementation of major upgrades has been challenging.
