William Davison (publisher)

William Davison (1781-1858) was a printer, publisher, bookseller, and inventor based in Alnwick, Northumberland, England. He was primarily known for producing inexpensive chapbooks and children's books, illustrated with wood engravings, making literature accessible to a wider audience. Davison also created and sold various other printed materials, including advertisements, playbills, and broadsides. His innovative spirit led him to invent and patent improvements to printing presses and related equipment. He served as Mayor of Alnwick multiple times and was a prominent figure in the local community. His printing house was a significant contributor to the literary landscape of the early 19th century.
