John Frank (defensive end)

John Frank (born December 24, 1962) is a former American football player who played defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). He is notable for having a successful career as a physician alongside his NFL career.

Frank attended Ohio State University, where he played college football for the Buckeyes. He earned a degree in chemistry before being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft.

He played five seasons for the 49ers (1984-1988), during which time the team won two Super Bowls (XIX and XXIII). Frank was a backup defensive end and a key contributor on special teams.

While playing professional football, Frank simultaneously attended medical school at Ohio State University. He earned his medical degree in 1991. After retiring from the NFL, he pursued a career in otolaryngology, specializing in head and neck surgery. Dr. Frank is currently a practicing physician.
