Hokitika

Hokitika is a town in the West Coast region of New Zealand's South Island, located at the mouth of the Hokitika River. Founded in 1864 during the West Coast Gold Rush, it quickly became a major port and commercial center. The town's prosperity was initially built on gold mining and subsequently sustained by forestry and agriculture.

Hokitika is known for its scenic beauty, including the Hokitika Gorge with its turquoise waters, and its proximity to the Tasman Sea. It is also a center for pounamu (greenstone) carving and glassblowing, with numerous workshops and galleries showcasing local artisans' work.
