Extinction (2015 film)
Extinction is a 2015 post-apocalyptic science fiction horror film directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas and written by Miguel Ángel Vivas, Alberto Marini and Joshua Hull. The film stars Matthew Fox, Jeffrey Donovan, and Quinn Shephard.
The film tells the story of two men, Patrick and Jack, who survived a global viral outbreak that turned much of humanity into zombie-like creatures. Nine years after the outbreak, they live a reclusive life in the snow-covered town of Harmony, struggling to protect Patrick's adopted daughter, Lu, from the creatures and from each other due to a shared traumatic past event that has fractured their relationship. Their secluded existence is threatened when the creatures, initially thought to be dormant, return in a more evolved and dangerous form. Patrick and Jack must learn to overcome their animosity and work together to protect Lu and survive the renewed threat.
The film explores themes of grief, trauma, redemption, and the importance of family in the face of unimaginable circumstances. It premiered at the Sitges Film Festival in October 2015 and was subsequently released on various streaming platforms. The creatures in the film are often referred to as "Hybrids" due to their evolved nature.
