David O'Connor (equestrian)

David O'Connor (born January 18, 1962) is an American equestrian best known for his achievements in the sport of eventing. He has represented the United States in multiple Olympic Games and World Equestrian Games, earning individual and team medals.

O'Connor's most notable achievement was winning the individual gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, riding Custom Made. He also won team bronze at the same Olympics. Earlier, he earned a team silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

In addition to his Olympic successes, O'Connor has been a prominent figure in the sport domestically. He has won numerous national championships and served as president of the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). He is also a respected coach and clinician, contributing to the development of eventing riders in the United States. After stepping down as president of USEF, he continued to be involved in the sport as a coach and advisor. His wife, Karen O'Connor, is also a highly successful eventing rider.
