Malin Sea

The Malin Sea is a marginal sea located off the northwest coast of Scotland, part of the wider Atlantic Ocean. It is bounded by the Outer Hebrides to the west, mainland Scotland to the east, and the North Atlantic to the north and west. It connects to the Minch, a major channel separating the Outer Hebrides from the mainland.

The Malin Sea is relatively shallow, with depths generally less than 200 meters. Its seabed is characterized by a complex topography including basins, troughs, and banks. It is an area of strong tides and currents.

The Sea is a significant area for marine biodiversity, supporting a variety of habitats and species, including seabird colonies, marine mammals (such as seals, dolphins, and whales), and commercially important fish stocks. The area is also subject to human activities such as fishing, shipping, and oil and gas exploration.

Due to its ecological importance, portions of the Malin Sea have been designated as Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to conserve its biodiversity and habitats.
