PsycLIT
PsycLIT was a comprehensive bibliographic database of psychological literature published by the American Psychological Association (APA). It was a key resource for researchers, students, and practitioners in the field of psychology and related disciplines.
PsycLIT covered a wide range of publications, including journals, books, dissertations, and technical reports. It indexed and abstracted materials from the 1887 onwards, providing access to both historical and contemporary psychological research. The database provided detailed information such as author, title, publication details, abstract, subject headings (thesaurus terms), and more, allowing users to efficiently search and locate relevant publications.
Key features of PsycLIT included:
- Comprehensive Coverage: A broad collection of materials from a diverse range of psychological disciplines.
- Detailed Indexing: The use of standardized subject headings (thesaurus terms) to ensure consistent and accurate retrieval of information.
- Abstracts: Concise summaries of the content of each publication, enabling users to quickly assess its relevance.
- Advanced Search Capabilities: Tools for conducting complex searches based on keywords, authors, publication dates, and other criteria.
PsycLIT was primarily available on CD-ROM and through online database vendors. It has been superseded by and is now integrated within the APA's larger database, PsycINFO, which offers expanded coverage and enhanced functionality. PsycINFO remains the premier resource for accessing psychological literature. The PsycLIT database no longer exists as a standalone product.
