Coupling (American TV series)

Coupling was an American sitcom that aired on NBC from September 2003 to January 2004. It was an adaptation of the British sitcom of the same name, created by Steven Moffat.

The American version attempted to translate the British show's risque and fast-paced humor to an American audience. However, it suffered from significant creative differences and struggled to capture the same wit and charm of the original.

The series centered around the romantic and sexual lives of six friends: Steve Taylor (Jay Harrington), Susan Freeman (Rena Sofer), Jane Pontefract (Lindsay Price), Patrick Maitland (Colin Ferguson), Jeff Murdock (Christopher Moynihan), and Oliver Carter (Med Abed).

Changes from the original British version included toning down some of the more explicit content, altering character dynamics, and introducing new storylines. These alterations were generally unpopular with critics and viewers who were familiar with the British series.

Due to low ratings and negative reviews, Coupling was cancelled after only four episodes aired. The remaining episodes were later broadcast on Trio, a defunct cable channel. The show is widely considered a failed adaptation, and is often cited as an example of how not to adapt a British sitcom for American television. It did not achieve the same cult following or critical acclaim as its British counterpart.
