Edward Harland (general)

Edward Harland (1919 – 2012) was a British Army officer who achieved the rank of Major General.

Harland was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1939. He served during World War II, seeing action in North Africa and Italy. Following the war, he held a variety of staff and regimental appointments.

Significant postings included command of the 19th Light Air Defence Regiment Royal Artillery, and later, command of the 1st Artillery Brigade. He also served as Director of Military Training at the Ministry of Defence. He was appointed Major General in 1971, subsequently serving as Commander, British Forces Cyprus, and Administrator of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia. He retired from the army in 1974.

After his retirement, Harland was involved in various charitable and community activities. He died in 2012.
