SpinVox was a UK-based technology company specializing in voice-to-text conversion services. Founded in 2003, it gained prominence by offering voicemail-to-text transcription, allowing users to receive voicemail messages as text messages or emails. The company's core technology involved advanced speech recognition and natural language processing algorithms to transcribe spoken messages into written form.

SpinVox initially partnered with mobile network operators, integrating its services into their existing voicemail systems. This allowed mobile phone users to access transcriptions of their voicemails directly on their devices. The company expanded its services to other areas, including enterprise solutions and applications for emergency services.

In the late 2000s, SpinVox faced scrutiny regarding the accuracy and the underlying technology of its transcription service. Questions arose about the extent to which human operators were involved in the transcription process, leading to debates about the level of automation and accuracy claims made by the company.

Following these controversies, SpinVox rebranded as Vlingo in 2010, shifting its focus towards developing voice-based virtual assistant technology for mobile devices. The Vlingo platform aimed to provide users with a more comprehensive and interactive voice-controlled interface.
