John Dwyer (police officer)
John Dwyer is a law enforcement officer who served as the Sheriff of Marin County, California from 1997 to 2017. Prior to becoming Sheriff, Dwyer worked his way through the ranks of the Marin County Sheriff's Office, holding positions such as Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain.
During his tenure as Sheriff, Dwyer focused on community policing strategies, emphasizing partnerships between the Sheriff's Office and the residents of Marin County. He oversaw the operation of the Marin County Jail, as well as providing law enforcement services to unincorporated areas of the county and contract services to several cities within Marin.
Dwyer was involved in initiatives related to emergency preparedness, homeland security, and combating drug trafficking within the region. He also served on various boards and committees related to law enforcement and public safety at the local and state level. Since retiring as Sheriff, Dwyer has remained involved in community affairs.
