MV Ulster Prince (1966)

The MV Ulster Prince was a passenger and vehicle ferry operated by the Belfast Steamship Company, later P&O Ferries, on routes between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Built in 1966 by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, she served primarily on the Liverpool – Belfast route for much of her career. She was one of three sister ships, the others being the Ulster Queen and the Ulster Monarch.

The Ulster Prince offered overnight crossings, providing cabin accommodation for passengers as well as car and lorry carrying capacity. The vessel played a significant role in maintaining transport links during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

She was eventually withdrawn from service and sold for scrap in the late 1980s. The Ulster Prince represented a specific era of ferry travel, characterized by a focus on passenger comfort and the vital sea link between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
