Leskhozny

A leskhoz (Russian: лесхо́з) is a type of state forestry enterprise in the Soviet Union and some post-Soviet countries. The term is derived from les (лес), meaning "forest," and khozyaistvo (хозяйство), meaning "economy" or "management."

Leskhozes were responsible for a wide range of activities related to forest management, including:

• Reforestation: Planting new trees to replace those that were harvested or lost to natural causes.
• Forest protection: Preventing and fighting forest fires, controlling pests and diseases, and combating illegal logging.
• Timber harvesting: Planning and executing the sustainable harvesting of timber resources.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many leskhozes were reorganized or privatized, and their functions were often distributed among different agencies or private companies. However, the term leskhoz may still be used in some regions to refer to state-owned or municipal forestry enterprises.
