William Cowper (Archdeacon of Cumberland)
William Cowper (born circa 1709, died 1779) was an English clergyman who served as the Archdeacon of Cumberland. He was a member of the influential Cowper family, but is often overshadowed in historical records by more famous relatives, particularly the poet William Cowper. His archdeaconry placed him in an important administrative role within the Church of England in the Cumberland region. While details of his life and work are not as widely documented as those of other prominent Cowpers, archival records from the period and ecclesiastical histories provide evidence of his role and activities within the church hierarchy. Information regarding his specific contributions to the Archdeaconry of Cumberland, such as building projects, pastoral care initiatives, or significant sermons, remains limited in readily available historical sources.
