Durabis
Durabis is a proprietary optical disc hard coating technology developed by Sony. It is designed to protect Blu-ray Discs, DVDs, and CDs from scratches, fingerprints, and dust. Durabis coatings aim to improve the durability and lifespan of optical media, making them more resistant to everyday wear and tear. The technology involves applying a hard, transparent layer to the disc surface during the manufacturing process. This layer is typically much harder than the polycarbonate substrate of the disc itself, offering enhanced protection against physical damage. Durabis coatings were commonly used on Sony's branded optical media and may be found on discs from other manufacturers who licensed the technology. While the specific chemical composition of Durabis is proprietary, it is generally understood to be a polymer-based material engineered for hardness and clarity. Subsequent iterations of the technology may have been developed with improved scratch resistance or other enhanced properties.
