Montero (album)
Montero is the debut studio album by American rapper and singer Lil Nas X, released on September 17, 2021, through Columbia Records. The album is named after Lil Nas X's birth name, Montero Lamar Hill, and explores themes of identity, sexuality, love, and fame.
The album features guest appearances from Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, and Jack Harlow. Montero was preceded by the singles "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)," "Sun Goes Down," "Industry Baby," and "That's What I Want."
Upon release, Montero received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised its bold and unapologetic exploration of sexuality, its diverse musical styles, and Lil Nas X's vulnerability. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album was nominated for Album of the Year at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.
