Diet Eman

Diet Eman (1920-2019) was a Dutch resistance fighter during World War II. Born in The Hague, Netherlands, she became involved in the underground movement after the Nazi occupation began in 1940.

Eman was a devout Christian, and her faith motivated her to help Jewish people and others targeted by the Nazi regime. She worked with various resistance groups, including the "Group Hein," primarily focusing on providing food, shelter, and forged identification papers to those in hiding. Her activities were extremely dangerous, and she faced constant risk of arrest and execution.

After the war, Eman remained active in charitable work and spoke extensively about her experiences during the occupation, emphasizing the importance of resisting injustice and upholding human dignity. She was recognized for her bravery and humanitarian efforts with numerous awards, including the Yad Vashem medal as Righteous Among the Nations in 1967. Her story serves as an important reminder of the courage and resilience demonstrated by ordinary people during extraordinary times.
