John Hancock (born 29 November 1945) is an Australian former politician who served as a Liberal Party member of the Australian Senate for Western Australia from 1986 to 1996.
Hancock entered politics after a career as a grazier and businessman. He was elected to the Senate at the 1984 election, with his term commencing in 1986.
During his time in the Senate, Hancock was a prominent voice on issues related to free markets, individual liberty, and small government. He was known for his strong advocacy for deregulation, tax cuts, and reduced government intervention in the economy. He was a member of the "New Right" faction within the Liberal Party.
Hancock frequently clashed with both the Labor government and elements within his own party, particularly on economic policy. He was a vocal critic of tariffs and other forms of protectionism.
He lost his seat in the 1996 election. Following his departure from politics, Hancock has remained active in public commentary and advocacy for his preferred policy positions.
