Cockles (TV series)
Cockles is a British television sitcom that aired on ITV in 1984. The series was created by Roy Clarke, best known for his work on Last of the Summer Wine and Open All Hours.
Cockles starred Roy Barraclough and Pat Heywood as Wilf and Edie Cockle, a middle-aged, working-class couple living in a small house in the North of England. The series centered around the everyday lives of the Cockles, their bickering, their enduring affection for each other, and their interactions with their eccentric neighbours and friends.
While intended as a longer-running show, Cockles was cancelled after only one series of six episodes due to low ratings. Although not a major success upon its initial broadcast, it has since gained a small cult following, partly due to the reputation of Roy Clarke and the performances of the lead actors. The series is considered a gentle comedy focusing on the mundane realities of married life.
