Daniel Bernard (politician)
Daniel Bernard is a former French diplomat. He served as the Ambassador of France to the United Kingdom from 2000 to 2002 and later as the Ambassador to Algeria.
During his tenure as Ambassador to the UK, Bernard became embroiled in controversy due to remarks he reportedly made at a private dinner, where he allegedly described Israel as a "shitty little country." These comments, which were leaked to the press, caused significant diplomatic fallout and strained relations between France and Israel. Bernard later denied using those exact words, but the incident significantly impacted his reputation and tenure as ambassador.
Following his time in London, Bernard served as the French Ambassador to Algeria, a role he held until his retirement. He has largely remained out of the public eye since leaving diplomatic service. His career reflects the complexities and potential pitfalls of international diplomacy, particularly in navigating sensitive geopolitical issues.
