Road (American band)

Road was an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in the early 1970s. The band consisted of Noel Redding (bass, vocals), formerly of the Jimi Hendrix Experience; Rod Richards (guitar, vocals), previously of Rare Earth; and Les Sampson (drums).

Road was formed after Redding's departure from Fat Mattress. They aimed for a heavier, more guitar-driven sound than Redding's previous band. They were signed to MCA Records and released one self-titled album in 1972. The album featured a blend of hard rock, blues rock, and psychedelic influences.

Despite some positive reviews and moderate touring, the album did not achieve significant commercial success. Differences in musical direction and internal conflicts contributed to the band's relatively short lifespan. Road disbanded shortly after the release of their debut album.

Following the dissolution of Road, the members pursued various other musical projects. Noel Redding continued to perform and record as a solo artist and with other bands until his death in 2003. Rod Richards remained active in the music industry, working as a session musician and composer. Les Sampson continued his career as a drummer, playing with different artists.
