Hovenring

The Hovenring is a suspended circular cycle bridge in Eindhoven, Netherlands. It's notable for being a completely separate structure for bicycle traffic suspended above a major intersection, rather than a traditional bridge or underpass built at ground level or below.

Designed to improve cyclist safety and traffic flow, the Hovenring carries cyclists above the Heerbaan/Meerenakkerweg intersection, a busy junction with high vehicle traffic. It effectively separates bicycle traffic from car traffic, reducing potential collisions and congestion.

The structure consists of a large circular steel deck suspended by cables from a single central pylon approximately 70 meters (230 feet) high. The bridge deck is approximately 72 meters (236 feet) in diameter. The design incorporates lighting to enhance visibility, particularly at night.

Construction of the Hovenring began in February 2011 and was completed in June 2012. It was temporarily closed shortly after opening due to vibrations caused by wind, but re-opened after modifications. It has since become a well-known landmark and a symbol of innovative cycling infrastructure in the Netherlands.
