Savak (band)
Savak is an American post-punk band formed in Brooklyn, New York City in 2015. The band is composed of members Sohrab Habibion (Obits, Edsel), Greg Horbal (Air Traffic Controller), Michael Jaworski (The Copyrights), and Matt Schulz (Holy Fuck, Enon). Savak is known for its angular guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and socially conscious lyrics.
The band's name is derived from SAVAK, the Persian acronym for the Organization of National Security and Information, the secret police of Iran's Pahlavi regime.
Savak has released several studio albums, including Best of Luck in Future Endeavors (2016), Cut-Ups (2018), Rotting Teeth (2020), and Human Error / Human Delight (2023). They have toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. Their music has been described as a blend of influences ranging from post-punk and art-punk to classic rock and new wave. The band often draws comparisons to bands like Wire, Mission of Burma, and The Fall.
