Jōgen (Kamakura period)
Jōgen (承元) was a Japanese era name (年号, nengō) used to denote a specific period in Japanese history. It commenced in 1207 and ended in 1211. The era's reign name is used to identify the period in Japanese history from the first day of the 11th month of 1207 to the last day of the 12th month of 1211. This period falls within the broader Kamakura period (鎌倉時代, Kamakura jidai).
The preceding era name was Kennin (建仁). The subsequent era name was Kenryaku (建暦). During the Jōgen era, the reigning shogun was Minamoto no Sanetomo (源実朝). Notable events of the Jōgen era often included political developments within the Kamakura shogunate, and events relating to the daily lives of the people during that time. Further research is needed to pinpoint specific and detailed events that occurred exclusively during this relatively short era.
