Richard Grace (judge)
Richard Grace was an American judge, best known for presiding over Roe v. Wade in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He was one of a three-judge panel that also included Irving Goldberg and Sarah T. Hughes. In 1970, the panel ruled that the Texas abortion laws were unconstitutional, finding them to be an infringement on a woman's right to privacy under the Ninth Amendment and the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. However, this ruling was appealed directly to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Before his involvement in Roe v. Wade, Grace served as a judge in the Northern District of Texas. Information regarding his earlier legal career, education, and other cases he presided over is limited in publicly available resources. His role in the landmark abortion case remains his most notable contribution to American legal history.
