Gustaf Sparre (speaker)
Gustaf Sparre (1746-1794) was a Swedish nobleman, civil servant (Hovmarschall), and prominent orator. He is primarily remembered for his eloquent and persuasive speeches during a turbulent period in Swedish history, particularly during the reign of King Gustav III. Sparre belonged to the aristocratic opposition to Gustav III's increasingly autocratic rule, advocating for greater parliamentary influence and limitations on royal power. He was a key figure in political debates and participated in discussions concerning constitutional reforms. While not involved in direct conspiracies, his speeches and political actions contributed to the growing unease with the monarchy that eventually led to Gustav III's assassination.
