Carmyle

Carmyle is a district in the east end of Glasgow, Scotland. Situated on the north bank of the River Clyde, it lies between the districts of Tollcross and Cambuslang. Historically, Carmyle was a village independent of Glasgow, but it was absorbed into the city's boundaries in the 20th century.

The area is primarily residential, consisting largely of housing estates built in the mid-to-late 20th century. Carmyle is served by Carmyle railway station on the Argyle Line, providing direct rail connections to Glasgow city centre and other surrounding areas.

Local amenities include a small selection of shops, a primary school (Carmyle Primary School), and recreational areas along the River Clyde. The area is close to larger retail and leisure facilities in nearby areas like Parkhead and Cambuslang.

The name Carmyle is believed to be derived from the Gaelic "Cathair Mhíol," meaning "fort of the hero" or "fort of the warrior." Evidence of historical settlement exists in the area, although modern Carmyle is largely a product of 20th-century urban development.
