Casa Militar (Brazil)

The Casa Militar (Military House) of Brazil is an agency of the Executive Branch responsible for providing security and administrative support to the President and Vice-President of Brazil, as well as their respective families. Its functions include planning and coordinating the security of the presidential residences (Palácio da Alvorada and Palácio do Jaburu), the President's office (Palácio do Planalto), and other locations visited by the President and Vice-President both within Brazil and abroad.

The Casa Militar is headed by a senior military officer, usually holding the rank of General, who reports directly to the President. It oversees the Presidential Guard Battalion (Batalhão da Guarda Presidencial), the Presidential Guard Cavalry Regiment (Regimento de Cavalaria de Guardas), the Coordenadoria de Segurança Presidencial (Presidential Security Coordination), and other supporting units. These units are responsible for providing close protection to the President, guarding the presidential residences, and coordinating with other security agencies.

Beyond security, the Casa Militar also handles administrative tasks related to the President's and Vice-President's daily activities, including transportation, logistics, and event planning. It often acts as a liaison between the Presidency and the Armed Forces, facilitating communication and coordinating military participation in state events and ceremonies. The structure and responsibilities of the Casa Militar have evolved over time, reflecting changes in Brazil's political landscape and security environment. Its core mission, however, remains the same: to ensure the safety and well-being of the President and Vice-President and to provide the necessary administrative support for the effective functioning of the Presidential office.
