Chanson (band)

Chanson was an American disco/funk band formed in New York City in the late 1970s. The band is best known for their 1978 hit single "Don't Hold Back," which reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The band consisted of singer/songwriter/keyboardist James Vincent, drummer Maurice Oliver, bassist John Taylor, and guitarist Ricky Sanders. Chanson's sound was characterized by its blend of disco rhythms, funk grooves, and Vincent's distinctive vocals.

Following the success of "Don't Hold Back," Chanson released their debut album, also titled Chanson, in 1978. The album featured other tracks such as "I Think It's Me" and "Let's Get Down," but none achieved the same level of popularity as their breakthrough single.

Despite the initial success, Chanson did not release any further albums. The band members eventually pursued other musical projects. While their mainstream success was limited to a short period, "Don't Hold Back" remains a notable song from the disco era and is often featured on compilation albums and in retrospects of the genre.
