Blood (band)

Blood is a Japanese visual kei metal band formed in 2002. They are known for their dark, gothic aesthetic, complex musical arrangements, and themes of death, decay, and the macabre.

History:

Blood was founded by Kiwamu (guitar) after the disbandment of his previous band, Madeth gray'll. Initially, Blood featured a rotating lineup of vocalists and supporting members before solidifying with Kaede as the permanent vocalist. The band's early work was characterized by a raw, aggressive sound that evolved over time into a more melodic and atmospheric style. Blood released numerous albums, singles, and DVDs throughout their career, gaining a dedicated following both in Japan and internationally.

Musical Style:

Blood's music is a blend of gothic metal, visual kei, and industrial influences. Kiwamu's guitar work is central to the band's sound, featuring intricate riffs, heavy distortion, and soaring melodies. Kaede's vocals range from harsh screams and growls to clean, operatic passages. The band's use of synthesizers and electronic elements adds a layer of atmosphere and complexity to their compositions. Lyrically, Blood explores dark and often disturbing themes, dealing with subjects such as death, vampirism, and the darker aspects of human nature.

Key Members:

  • Kiwamu: Guitar, Composer, Producer
  • Kaede: Vocals

Discography (Selection):

Blood has released a significant body of work. Some notable albums include:

  • Les Fleurs du Mal

  • Labyrinth

Visual Kei Influences:

Blood's visual kei influence is evident in their elaborate costumes, dramatic makeup, and theatrical stage presence. Their visual style often incorporates elements of gothic fashion, with dark colors, lace, and ornate accessories.

Current Status:

As of late 2023, Blood's activities have been intermittent. Although not formally disbanded, new releases and live performances have been infrequent in recent years. The band's legacy, however, continues to influence subsequent generations of visual kei and gothic metal artists.
