Bertius

Bertius is a Latinized surname, most notably associated with the Dutch cartographer, historian, geographer, and theologian Petrus Bertius (1565-1629). He was born Pieter de Bert, and adopted the Latinized form, common for scholars of his time.

Petrus Bertius is best known for his contributions to cartography, particularly his pocket atlas, the Tabularum Geographicarum Contractarum Libri Septem. This atlas, published in numerous editions and languages, offered a concise overview of the world as it was known in the early 17th century.
