NGC 4380
NGC 4380 is a spiral galaxy located approximately 67 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. It is classified as a type Sa galaxy, meaning it has a prominent central bulge and tightly wound spiral arms.
NGC 4380 is a member of the Virgo Cluster, a large cluster of galaxies containing thousands of members. The galaxy exhibits a smooth, featureless disk and a relatively low star formation rate compared to other spiral galaxies of its type. Its relatively isolated location within the cluster compared to other members may contribute to this.
The galaxy was discovered on March 22, 1784, by William Herschel. It is of moderate brightness and can be observed with telescopes of moderate aperture. Its apparent magnitude is approximately 12.0. Further studies of NGC 4380 continue to contribute to the understanding of galaxy evolution and the dynamics of galaxy clusters.
