Kungurian

The Kungurian is the second stage of the Cisuralian Series in the Permian Period. It follows the Artinskian Stage and precedes the Roadian Stage. The Kungurian lasted from approximately 279.3 to 272.3 million years ago (Ma).

The Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for the base of the Kungurian Stage is located in the Dal'ny Tulkas section, near Krasnousol'skiy, southern Urals, Russia.

The Kungurian is characterized by significant developments in marine life, particularly the diversification of ammonoids and the continuing prominence of fusulinids. Terrestrially, the period saw the evolution and spread of early reptiles and synapsids.

The Kungurian is sometimes subdivided into substages, though this subdivision is not universally agreed upon.
