Pound Puppies (1986 TV series)

The Pound Puppies is an animated television series that aired from 1986 to 1989. Based on the popular toy line of the same name created by Tonka, the series follows a group of dogs who reside at the Holly's Pound. The Pound Puppies, led by Cooler, are dedicated to finding loving homes for all the puppies at the pound. They operate in secret, using an elaborate underground network of tunnels and a sophisticated communication system.

The main characters include Cooler, the laid-back leader; Nose Marie, the pessimistic and often sarcastic expert on dog breeds; Whopper, a naive and eager puppy; Bright Eyes, a female puppy with a positive outlook; and Howler, a puppy with a signature howl. They are assisted by a group of supportive dog and cat allies.

Each episode typically revolves around the Pound Puppies' efforts to match a puppy with the perfect family, often overcoming obstacles and thwarting the plans of the antagonist, Katrina Stoneheart, and her bumbling assistant, Brattina. The series emphasizes themes of friendship, teamwork, compassion, and finding a place to belong. The show’s original run consisted of two seasons and a total of 26 episodes. It also spawned specials and later reboots.
