Eeshwar (1989 film)
Eeshwar is a 1989 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by K. Vishwanath. It is a remake of the Telugu film Swathi Muthyam (1986), which was also directed by K. Vishwanath.
The film stars Anil Kapoor as Eeshwar, a man with a mental disability, and Vijayashanti as Lalita, a widow who is facing societal pressure. The plot revolves around their unconventional relationship and how Eeshwar's simple innocence and kindness affect those around him. Lalita initially sees Eeshwar as someone to be pitied and protected, but she eventually comes to respect and love him for his pure heart.
The film explores themes of societal prejudice, the importance of kindness, and the true meaning of humanity beyond intellectual capacity. It was known for its sensitive portrayal of disability and its commentary on the treatment of widows in Indian society.
