Bäke (Telte)
The Bäke is a small river, actually a Fließ (a slow-flowing stream), in the Teltow region of Brandenburg and Berlin, Germany. It flows for approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles). The name is derived from the Low German word for "brook" or "stream".
The Bäke originates near the village of Gröben in Teltow and flows generally northeast. It passes through or near several localities including Ruhlsdorf, Stahnsdorf, and then into Berlin's Zehlendorf district. It eventually empties into the Griebnitzsee, a lake on the border between Berlin and Potsdam, which in turn connects to the Havel River.
Historically, the Bäke was important for water management and agriculture in the region. Its course has been modified over time through channelization and the construction of drainage ditches. Today, the Bäke plays a role in the local ecosystem and is a feature of recreational areas. Efforts are underway to renaturalize sections of the river to improve its ecological health and biodiversity. The water quality of the Bäke is subject to monitoring and management due to agricultural and urban runoff.
