Zignago

Zignago is a municipality located in the province of La Spezia, in the Liguria region of northern Italy. Situated in the Val di Vara, a valley known for its natural beauty, Zignago is a predominantly rural area.

The municipality encompasses several smaller frazioni (hamlets), including Debeduse, Imprato, Pieve, Torpiana, Valgiuncata, and Villa. These hamlets are scattered across the hilly terrain of the valley.

Historically, Zignago's economy has been based on agriculture, particularly the cultivation of grapes, olives, and chestnuts. Forestry also plays a role in the local economy. More recently, tourism has become a factor, with visitors attracted to the area's scenic landscapes and opportunities for hiking and outdoor activities.

Zignago's name is thought to derive from a Ligurian or Roman origin. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, and evidence of past settlements can be found throughout the municipality.
