Eosurcula

Eosurcula is an extinct genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Drilliidae, part of the Turridae superfamily.

Eosurcula species were predatory carnivores or scavengers. Their fossilized shells are found in marine deposits dating primarily to the Eocene epoch. The genus is characterized by its fusiform shape, prominent spiral sculpture, and the presence of a posterior siphonal notch or anal sinus, a characteristic feature of many turrid snails.

The geographic distribution of Eosurcula fossils suggests the genus had a widespread presence in Eocene seas, with finds reported from Europe and North America. Identification of specific Eosurcula species relies on detailed examination of shell morphology, including the shape and size of the protoconch, the arrangement and strength of spiral cords, and the features of the aperture and siphonal canal.

Taxonomic classification within the Turridae is complex and evolving, and the precise placement of Eosurcula within the family may be subject to revision based on new paleontological findings and phylogenetic analyses.
