Anti-Corruption Bureau (Andhra Pradesh)
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Andhra Pradesh, is a specialized agency of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India, tasked with investigating and prosecuting cases of corruption involving public servants within the state. Its primary objective is to prevent corruption and maintain integrity in public service.
The ACB operates independently, reporting directly to the state government. It has the authority to investigate allegations of bribery, misappropriation of funds, abuse of official position, and other forms of corrupt practices. The bureau receives complaints from various sources, including the public, government departments, and whistleblowers.
Upon receiving a complaint, the ACB conducts preliminary inquiries to assess the veracity of the allegations. If sufficient evidence is found, a formal investigation is launched, which may involve conducting raids, seizing documents, and interrogating suspects.
The ACB has the power to register cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Following investigation, the ACB files chargesheets in designated special courts established to expedite the trials of corruption cases.
The Bureau plays a crucial role in upholding the rule of law and promoting transparency and accountability in public administration in Andhra Pradesh. It contributes to good governance by deterring corrupt practices and ensuring that public servants act in the best interests of the public. The ACB also conducts awareness programs to educate the public about the dangers of corruption and encourage them to report instances of corruption.
